I have been surprised by the lack of ambition within my research field to conduct research that shines a light on what is hiding in the dark. This seems to be an issue of funding continuing to focus on evidence generation(I believe and from talking to those in the sector, we have sufficient evidence to act) not on complex, real-world multisectoral scalable and impactful interventions and their implementation.
This has surprised me but having now been in and around academia for 9 weeks I can see that many people feel vulnerable. This is partly due to the nature of HE and research funding mechanism’s and are therefore not willing (understandably) to disrupt the status quo.
This has made me reflect on my ‘why’!
