Whilst enjoying my winter break and a trip to the seaside, this colourful fishing boat caught my attention. Balancing in the harbour whilst the tide was out and protected from the stormy sea’s, it made me reflect on my journey so far and the need to balance my time effectively between work and play. The daily ups and downs of a PhD may be represented by the hard work that this fishing boat has to do on a daily basis. Some days the seas are still, calm and full of fish and the catch is plentiful, but on other days the rough and sometime seemingly impassable waters may be just too much of a challenge and you have to return back to the harbour empty handed. However the protection and stillness that is on offer in the harbour means you can rest, relax, refuel and go again tomorrow.
